Tis the Season in Seattle: 3 Ways to Give Back

Happy Monday

Just a few more weeks and everyone will be around the Christmas tree opening all the things they requested, or rather begged Santa for! Ho Ho Ho, have you been naughty or nice?!?  I love the holiday season, a great time of the year to reflect on family and friends, and all the good things in life.

Here in America we are blessed with an abundance compare to many other countries in the world.  It's hard to admit, but we sometimes get greedy and forget to think of others.

I've been reading other blogs and seeing lots of ways to spread cheer this time of year. It's great to be a blessing to someone who is not expecting it.  Here are a few ways  you can make a big difference with little expense.

1) Pay it forward in the coffee line!

Tell the cashier when you are paying for your java, you want to pay for the person behind you. They will get their caffiene fix and leave with a huge smile!

2 Take it to the streets

Head to the nearest dollar store and pick up a bag of gallon sized ziploc bags and fill with travel size toiletries.  These make great little gifts to hand out to homeless people. The huge smiles you get are so rewarding!

3) Volunteer at the Local Food Bank or Animal Shelter

Food banks are always in need of help, so even just a few hours of volunteer work can help tremendously.  Animal shelters are over flowing with furry friends who would love some attention and affection. It may be a lengthy process before you can get in, so start your application early.

These are just a few of many ways you can spread the Christmas spirit around.  I was inspired by several different posts I read on giving back.  It reminded me I need to think of others more, and do with a little less myself.

I leave you with a few images I captured downtown at Thanksgiving time.  I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a very prosperous New Year.  I will be taking a break from posting until after the 1st.

See you again soon!

  9. I love all of these ideas. My favorite is the bag of goods to hand out. You can spend a small amount a make a number of bags. I read a news article about how hard it is having your period as a homeless women and some shelters only give them 3 pads to last their entire cycle. This is a great thing to do year around

  11. Great post, I know what you mean and must say that we actually stopped buying huge Christmas presents. We buy so much stuff throughout the year that to us it's just important to be with the family. Sometimes I'm so disgusted when I see the people bombarding the shops and buy all this stuff, it's so off putting. Love, Kirsten xx
