Hello lovelies, I hope you are having warm weather in your neck of the woods! It has been rainy and on the cool side for the past week, ah the sun finally came out again!
The sunshine and this gazebo, made the perfect back drop for this photo shoot. Today I'm sharing the work of Chaya Mallavaram, she is the talented artist and designer of Chartzie Wearable Art. I featured her shirt designs here when my blog first started. Chaya has become a great mentor and source of inspiration.
Chaya's beautiful designs are hand painted and digitally printed on silk scarves. All of the collection has very vibrant and bold colors. This is a fabulous way to add a hint of chic to your summer outfits. Each one is luxuriously soft to the touch, light, and comfortable.
I love accessories that aren't cumbersome, and that add that final accent to pull your look together. Chartzie scarves are available in two different shapes to meet your styling needs: oblong and square. I chose the square celebration scarf. I fell in LOVE with this plush scarf, suffused with turquoise tones and textured gold motifs.
You will feel your spirits lift into a cheery celebration mode when you wear this scarf! Each scarf arrives in a luxury Chartzie gift box and an instruction card on how to style it.
Scarves are amazingly versatile and offer many options for styling. Here are my favorite ways to tie a scarf:
- Drape it in front for a soft and flowing look
- Roll it diagonally and thread it through the loops of your shorts or jeans and voila you have a super cute belt
- Gather it up and tie a knot in the middle, wear it like a necklace or choker and secure in the back by tying another knot.
The message that shines through in Chaya's work is one of passion and giving. A portion of the proceeds are donated to worthy causes such as Parkinson's disease research. This is a way to honor her late mother, who was the source of inspiration for Chaya's artistic journey.
Chaya so graciously agreed to answer my interview questions about her thriving fashion business. I am thankful for her friendship and for collaborating with me on this post. I know you will enjoy what she has to say!
1)Why did you decide to become a fashion designer?
I see myself as an artist
first, but I have always loved fashion. I saw the marriage between art and
fashion to be a perfect match, when my neighbor looked at my paintings, and
said he would “wear them”. That’s when the light bulb went off, and Chartzie
was born! I launched Chartzie with tops for women, but saw the versatility in
scarves. I think scarves are timeless, and so is art, hence I decided to pursue
this dream match through Chartzie!
2)What is your favorite
part of being a fashion artist/designer
I like playing with
colors! Colors are a vital part of my contemporary paintings, thus the vibrant
colors in the scarves. I mix and match colors boldly, so that they not only
blend well together, but also hold their own. Some of the scarf designs were
created before Chartzie was born, but now I’m painting specifically to add to
the collection, and that’s very exciting! When I’m painting, I focus on color,
balance, shape and texture, and strive for all these elements to come together.
The paintings are coming from a special place in my heart, and I want to pass
that positive energy to women wearing these art-scarves.
3) What is the inspiration
for the designs you paint for your scarves?
My mother has always been
my biggest inspiration for my art, as she encouraged me to paint since the time
I was young. She loved colors, and always talked about bright vivid colors in
clothing. Growing up in India, one cannot escape color, it’s everywhere; clothes,
food, home and movies! These factors play in my subconscious mind, and I escape
into this happy place as I paint.
4)How did you select the
fabrics you use?
Silk was the natural choice of fabric, as it
is soft, luxurious, has a beautiful sheen, is timeless and yet trendy. Chartzie
scarves are 100% silk, and are printed with eco friendly dyes, which showcase
the hand painted designs and colors beautifully.
5)What are your plans for
the future?
Chartzie’s customers’ feedback
has been overwhelmingly positive. This continues to be an inspiration for me to
create new designs. Wearable art and the forms it can take are limitless. I
plan to explore new partnerships, markets and products, and further Chartzie’s
goals to be the best in wearable art.
