Where to Go Next: 7 Best Places to Travel in the US in 2019

If one of your goals is to travel more this year: why not plan to see more of the United States?  I'm on a quest to see all 50 states, so far I've made it to 28.  From beach resorts to mountain towns, you will want to put some of these destinations on your bucket list!

Spring break is coming soon, it's time to get those trips planned. I'm sharing my list of 7 best places to travel in the US in 2019. I've been blessed to visit some of these places more than once. All of these are favored spots, that I've visited without clearing out the bank account.

1) Waikiki Beach, Hi

Everyone should visit Waikiki at least once. I've been 4 times, and still have so much to cover.  A beach vacation here is perfect for anyone: a family, single adult or granny and grandpa! Have a camera ready as your aircraft descends in preparation for landing.  The sky high view will have you in total awe. It's always to hard to jet home and leave such a beautiful place.

I recommend planning a trip to paradise in  late fall, winter or early spring. The last trip we went the day school got out. Although this was exciting to plan, it is peak season. You will pay top dollar during spring break and the summer. Christmas time is also an expensive time to visit.

Visiting Waikiki on a budget is definitely possible! I recommend a stay at the Aqua Oasis on Lewers. It is in the heart of Waikiki, and only a 7 minute walk to the beach. It's also centrally located between all the shops, restaurants and nightlife. The stay was lovely and very affordable.  This hotel includes breakfast in the open air lobby area.  Fresh juicy pineapple with palms swaying in the background, will call your name every morning!

2)   Las Vegas NV

Swimming pools, shopping, or dancing :what's your dream?! Las Vegas has it all. It is a great place to relax, unwind and have fun. Many peeps visit here to celebrate a special occasion such a marriage, anniversary, birthday, girls trip or retirement etc.

If you live on the West Coast, a trip to Vegas can be super cheap. I purchased my upcoming trip on Cyber week for under 300.00 for airfare and hotel. Check out Cheap tickets, they seem to have the best deals for Vegas package deals.

The Miracle in the Desert is a special place you won't soon forget. Every time I go, it's like a kid in the candy store all over again. It's an adult Disneyland- if you will.  If all there was to do, was check out the monstrous hotels- that in itself would entertain for days. Touring the marvelous resorts is still my favorite thing to do when visiting.

Check out these Hidden Facts about Las Vegas:

1) There's a hidden underground city where almost 1000 people live below the strip, no joke!
2) The MGM is the largest single hotel in the U.S.
3) The bronze lion statue outside the MGM is 50 tons, the biggest bronze statue in the U.S.A
4) The flamingo hotel was named after the mobster Bugsy Siegel's long legged girlfriend.
5) The container park was built from 43 shipping containers and 41 local containers.
6) The water fountains all use gray water to help with water consumption
7) People used to watch atomic testing from the safety of casinos. There is now an atomic museum and once during a large protest, 400 plus people were arrested: including Carl Sagan
8) There's a secret pizza parlor in the Cosmopolitan.

3) Seattle, WA

Yes you can be a tourist in your own city. It's always great to spend time exploring in your backyard to discover new things to do. Over the years, I've found some really cool places by taking a day here and there to tour the greater Seattle area. As stated in my about page, I'm a transplant from Vancouver BC, but Seattle has been home a long time.

I never get tired of visiting the world famous tourist attraction here: Pike Place Market. I've lost count how many times we've been- probably hundreds ha! The space needle is equally popular, and it's recently been renovated. You can now see the city beneath the soles of your shoes on a clear glass floor.

The emerald city is full of stunning scenery, fun outdoor activities and some of the best tasting food you'll  ever eat.  As you've probably heard, it does in fact rain cats and dogs! So with that in mind, plan your trip accordingly. May through September are great months to visit Seattle.  If on a tight schedule and only have a day, check out my day trip post here.

4) Lake Geneva, WI

I invite you to take a tour through Lake Geneva. Spring fed and crystal clear, Geneva Lake is gorgeous in any season. This beautiful town has plenty of options for fun, both on or off the water. It doesn't long to fall in love with this charming lakeside gem . Walking along the edge of  the sparkling water and the slightly cool breezes: sends one into a total sense of relaxation .

Although Lake Geneva offers fun activities for fall and winter, it is best to take advantage of this little paradise in the summer months. Wisconsin temperatures in winter take a deep plunge to the frozen zone. The options for activities are endless.

Lake Geneva is home to some of Wisconsin's best golf courses. It became a golf destination back in the 80's. The Geneva National Gulf Club offers 3 eighteen hole courses, that were designed by legendary golfers. The "Arnold Palmer" course is a favorite with everyone.

What's love to most is the sandy beach ! It really does remind me a lot of the beaches in Southern California.

 5) San Francisco, CA

There is just something special about  the city by the Bay. It is a great place for a day trip or an extended vacation. I was there for just a few hours the last time I visited. It's amazing all that you can see in 5 hours in a city that is so far reaching.  The popular spots everyone knows about are doable in a day. However, it would be great to take a week and discover the hidden gems of the city.

I suggest you go on a weekday, if you decide on a day trip. I would wait until 9:30 am to hit the road. If you start north of the city and work your way south, it seems to work well with the traffic flow. It was amazing that we never got stuck in any gridlock traffic, truly a miracle!

The Golden Gate bridge is probably one of the most beautiful sites to behold. If you don't have time to see anything else, this is a must see in San Francisco. Most of the time the bridge appears suspended in the clouds. It's not likely you will catch it on a totally clear day.  September is supposed to be the month to catch an unobstructed view.

6) Leavenworth, WA

Experience the best of a European village in the mountains of Washington state.  The Bavarian town of Leavenworth is located in the Cascade mountains, about 3 hours from Seattle. Experience crisp air, bright sunshine and beautiful scenery as the backdrop for outdoor activities, and sight seeing.

October and December are popular times to visit Leavenworth for the Autumn Leaf Festival and the Holiday Tree Lighting. These events draw crowds by the hundreds, be sure to make your reservations 6-12 months in advance.

Charter bus trips are available for some of the winter events, if you don't want to brave the snowy roads yourself.  I love to visit Leavenworth anytime of year, it has activities to keep you busy for every season.  If you are a fan of camping or tiny house stays, check out the Thousand Trails Campground nearby in Plain, WA.

If you are a fan of Bratwurst, check out the German Sausage Haus on the main street. It's first on the agenda, when we arrive in town!

7)  Venice Beach, CA

Venice Beach is an iconic sight that attracts tourists from all over the world. Approximately 30,000 people visit the area everyday. This is the second most visited destination in Southern Ca. It is definitely one of the most popular tourist attractions in CA.

The beach boardwalk stretches for two miles and has a very eclectic vibe. If you are into people watching, you will be mesmerized for hours!

I love to find unique coffee shops, and the Venice Beach Coffee & Creamery did not disappoint! You just may spot a celebrity at Venice Beach, as it's a very popular spot for film production, and it happens all year around.

If you like to spend an afternoon with a fishing pole in the water, there is a special pier that too.
For the skateboard whizzes there is a world renowned skate plaza. In 1977 Venice was named the skateboard capital of the world. If you would rather bike the boardwalk, there is a separate path just for cyclists.  Across from the beach is a recreation center where you can do various sports such as: basketball, tennis and handball.

My first trip of the year is coming up soon, just in time to celebrate my birthday. If you are still  planning your travel for 2019, I hope some of these places are on your list! If you already made your reservations, do share in the comments. Happy & safe travels friends.

Where is your first stop of 2019?
