12 Ways to Stay Connected While Social Distancing

2:20 PM
PikePlacemarket, SocialDistancing, SeattleWA,

I hope everyone is doing okay in light of recent world events. This pandemic is deeply affecting us all. In light of our situation ; I decided to share a non travel post as very few are traveling.
The impact on my favorite industry is going to be massive; but I'm hopeful everyone will be able to recover physically and financially.

If you find yourself on a city lock down or quarantine; here are ways to stay connected with friends and family while social distancing yourself:

Do a Group Face Time

If you are an online entrepreneur or blogger, a group face time would be fun to bounce ideas off each other.  I belong to an all female travel bloggers group on Facebook.  This Friday we are having a virtual co-working event.  I can't wait to connect and learn something new!

It's also a fabulous way for families and friends to connect near and far.

Host a Virtual Happy Hour

If you are missing your gal pals, co-workers or guy pals why not host an online happy hour?!  Set up a time to meet online and enjoy a fun chat, snacks and beverages.  There are a number of apps and online platforms to make this happen.  Instagram has a live option you can check out and so does Facebook.

Set Up a Watch Party on Facebook

This is a new feature that allows admins of Facebook groups to hold a live screening of pre-recorded videos that are publicly available on Facebook.  All members in the group can watch and comment on video's at the same time.  It's a great way to build community around your brand and boost engagement in your group.

Deepen Connections over the Phone

Pick up your landline or cell and give a long lost friend or connection a call.  Social media has become a great tool to connect with others worldwide but can cause disconnect.  Connecting in person or over the phone seems to be fading fast.

Go on Virtual Walk

This sounds like so much fun!  Imagine walking across the world with friends while tuning in live. My blogger friend Cristina in Romania recently took a walk at her local market.  What an amazing way to discover new lands for travel in the future.

 Watch Free Concerts Online

I was listening to my favorite show Good Morning America this morning.  They featured a segment on top music artists sharing free concerts on Instagram and other social media channels.  Keith Urban, Pink and Cold Play are a few sharing goodwill in these hard times.  If you are fan of John Legend he did one too on his Instagram.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is offering free broadcasts of plays and musicals.  Tune in every night at 7:30 p.m Eastern Standard Time.

 Check out New Podcasts

Do you listen to podcasts?  I'm subscribed to a few but haven't had much time to listen.  I plan on checking out a few  while being stuck inside.  My recommendations are: " Anatomy of Success", "Don't Keep your Day Job"  " 10 % Happier with Dan Harris",  " The Business of College Sports", and "Front Burner" by CBC news.

Binge Watch a New Series

Bachelor anyone?  Ha I'm so over that show.  Too much drama!  My 22 year old daughter enlightened me about another similar series on Netflix called  Love is Blind hmm you might want to check it out.  A very interesting take on finding love and dating.

The new streaming service Disney Plus is great to watch old Disney classics, animated favorites or the entire Star Wars series.  We subscribed to it about a month ago.  For all the moms going crazy with the kiddo's home all day; Disney Plus released Frozen II a few weeks early.  Now all the kids at home can stop driving mom up the wall,

Cook Instapot Recipes

This pot is the hottest item to cook a tasty meal fast.  I don't own one but wish I did.  I hear several of my friends complain they have limited time to try with new recipes.  Now you have some extra time  try out new dishes.  Check out these blogs dedicated to cooking with an instapot.

 Play with your Pet

Many pet owners are away from home long hours and don't have much time to spend with their furry friends.  Since I've been working from home the past year,  I've been able to spend more time connecting with kitty.  Isn't she gorgeous?!

Here in the Seattle area many employers have sent their team home to work remotely.  Use this time to get in some play time and bond further with man's best friend.  You can never go wrong owning a pet.

Join A Virtual Book Club or Bible Study

I've always wanted to join an in person book club.  Now doing them virtually is the big craze.  The best seller  In Five Years is the #1 book being ordered for reading parties.

In these very uncertain times peeps are leaning on their faith and bible reading to help ease fear and anxiety.  My friend (& web designer) runs a Facebook group for bible reading and discipleship.  I'm a member and enjoy the uplifting posts and encouragement.

Shop Fashion on Poshmark

onlineshopping, poshmark, poshmarkfashion, poshmarkambassador, socialdistancing

I realize this may not be a good time to shop.  If you find extra funds to treat yourself, check out this  platform for affordable fashion.  Styles are available for women, men and the kiddos too.  Accessories, home goods and makeup can be found on the site as well.

I  have a shop on Poshmark.  I add new items frequently and look for trendy and unique clothing.  On this site you can barter and make offers to sellers.

Even if you can't shop; surfing different boutiques and sites online will help keep you in the know and connected with the fashion industry.

Shopping for groceries online for someone in need is a great way to make a difference during this hard time.  Elderly folks and those with compromised immune systems will appreciate your good deed.

Stay safe and well everyone and please shelter in place when asked. I was in shock what I saw on T.V. ; the beach in Miami crowded with peeps- not good!
