Top Holiday Style Trend for 2018: Velvet

Happy Wednesday Lovelies!

I hope you had the best weekend! This past Saturday, I was invited to a fashion event at Off 5th Ave-Saks. It took place at the newly opened store downtown Seattle. It was great fun! Stay tuned, more to come on that later.

The holidays are a busy time of parties, events, and concerts. In all the business, you may be struggling with outfit ideas for the festivities you must attend.  This year it's all about velvet!  Shoes, dresses, shoes, booties, pants, accessories- it's a velvet, style extravaganza!

Velvet is an amazing fabric that feels so soft to the skin and looks so luxurious to wear. There's just something about velvet that makes me think of snow, sleigh rides, and royalty.  If you are having trouble getting in a festive mood, go buy yourself an  outfit in this year's top trend!

Velvet has actually been a top trend all fall, not just for the holidays. What I love about it:

  • The polished look and persona it gives you: think leadership potential
  • Velvet clothing declares that you are ready to make merry and be festive
  • It's a natural choice for a holiday party, no style dilemmas!
  • It's so versatile and comfortable for many different events

I found this fabulous black velvet hoodie with a tie up waist at Marshalls. It's so cute, and a great piece to dress up or down. I styled it with a casual pencil skirt and suede booties. It's a perfect outfit for a casual venue, or shopping with friends.

When I was shopping for a Christmas party outfit, this off the shoulder dress caught my eye fast! Teal green is definitely one of my favorite colors to wear this time of year. In the past most holiday dresses I have worn, have been very uncomfortable and itchy. I recommend staying  away from sequins and scratchy fabrics, choose velvet! Your night will go a lot smoother,  and there will be no worry about wardrobe mishaps.

What are your favorite trends to wear this Holiday?

Blog Announcement and Update:

Stay tuned, in February or March I will be getting a new blog design and template. This should make things more user friendly and up to date with SEO etc. It's hard to believe I 've been blogging for over 3 years. The past two I have spent hours trying to turn my blog into a business. It has been extremely challenging with an almost full time teaching job during the day.

I was networking recently with someone recently from another profession, and had a huge reality check. Sometimes inspiration comes in ways you least expect. Not everyone views online media as a positive outlet.  Anyway, I'm taking a bit of a different direction. I will still keep up this blog, but treating it more like a hobby. This means scaling back on social media. It's crazy how social media can overtake your life.  I hope to add more travel themed posts this year, and not as much fashion.

I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas! My family is staying close to home, with a few activities planned around the city. I am excited for my youngest child to get home from college!

Until Next Time,

  12. How right you are, Valerie, both in terms of velvet being an absolute must-have (not only now but clearly all year round) and also in how social media can utterly take over one's life. I've taken several pauses myself this year alone, and am still trying to find that perfect balance :)
