Dallas: Why You Should Visit the Big D

I loved my trip to Dallas, and thought I would share some reasons why you might want to pay the "Big D" a visit. This city is a taste  of southern class and fine hospitality.  Much to my surprise: Ten gallon hats, plaid shirts, and jeans were not the norm!

Dallas is a refined city, rich in more than just monetary ways, and bustling with activity! It is a great place for a weekend getaway or extended vacation.  I and a friend were there for a few days for the fashion market, and here is what I loved about this city:

1)  Breathtaking Skyline Views

I never got tired of this gorgeous view.  Everyday when I was at the fashion market, I had to sneak up to the 15th floor and get my daily dose of the city skyline. I love these types of views so much because I am a city girl all the way, Vancouver B.C. is my hometown.

2) Uptown Dallas: Exquisite Dining and Nightlife

I and my friend  actually never made it to downtown Dallas, as we heard Uptown is the place we needed to check out. Our hotel was located across the highway from the market, so we used Uber to get us to the uptown area.( Btw- Uber was fabulous, I would never use a cab again!)

The choices uptown are endless for dining and nightlife. We ate dinner at the Standard Pour, the food was delicious!  It is known as one of the best restaurants/bar in the area. If you are a fan of seafood, this is your place!  The scallops were to die for!

For a glass of wine after dinner , there are a few boutique hotels with beautiful lounges and a relaxing  atmosphere. The Dragonfly at Hotel Za Za  is very classy, and the outside covered area by the pool is a one of a kind experience. You can enjoy a drink , while reveling over the pool's glistening waters under a clear heated cover.

Fearings at the Ritz Carlton was lovely as well.  It had an outside patio with a fireplace attached to the inside lounge, perfect for the chilly winter evenings! I loved seeing all stylish peeps out for a night on the town.  It was cool to capture this shot of the fellas in their dressy trousers.

3)  The Best Shopping Ever

travel, travelblogger,

The shopping choices in Dallas are endless. There are malls and boutiques to fit every type of shopper: from budget to luxury. The first two phots were taken at the massive three story Galleria Mall. They have a 1920's curated fashion exhibit from the flapper era, on display until February 28th.

Pictured last is  Dallas Fashion Market. It is for wholesale shopping, as I mentioned in a previous post. Outdoor shopping centers abound, as the  weather is mostly balmy year around. I visited
West Village, but never made it to Hyland Park Village.

I hope you enjoyed a little tour of Dallas.  If you have ever visited there, I'd love to hear your experiences in the comments! Thanks for stopping by, I leave you with a few fun facts about the "Big D."

                                                                     xo Valerie

* The frozen margarita machine was invented in Dallas.

* The Galleria Dallas is home to the country's tallest indoor Christmas tree, during the holidays.

*The first convenience store, 7-eleven, was started in Dallas and  is headquartered there today.

  8. My favorite part of visiting Dallas was going to Through The Looking Glass. It's a vintage store that also does pinup photo shoots and hosts a 1940's style burlesque show the first weekend of each month! So much fun, I bought my valentines dress there.
