Tips for Wearing Denim on Denim: + Link Up

How can you break all the fashion rules? By wearing the denim on denim trend: AKA: The Canadian tuxedo.  Mixing up denim pieces is so exciting, because the outfits you can pull together are endless. It's the trend that's so wrong- it's right!

Denim on denim has long be considered a fashion blunder, or social mistake.  Why has this all of a sudden changed?

The shift in opinion can be attributed to the popularity of bloggers and street style.  The rise of street style has made the pairing of different shades of denim, seem all new again.

I took a trip to the flea market awhile back, and was feeling quite comfy in my Canadian tuxedo which is quite fitting- since I was born in Canuck land!  I'm not usually a fan of motorbikes, but was so tempted to jump on and ride into the sunset!

I found this light shaded denim vest at Goodwill.  The skinny jeans I 'm wearing , are the most comfortable I've ever owned.  I found them at my favorite place to shop: Macy's.  To complete this chic look, I added my favorite leopard pumps.

How To Wear this Trend and Pull it off Successfully:

1) Make sure your pieces are not the same shade of denim, and experience with fabrics of different weights. You don't want your outfit to appear too matchy.

2) Don't be afraid to dress up your denim look with a pair of fancy heels, a chic handbag, or a tuxedo blazer. A light weight chambray shirt paired with a dark pair of skinny jeans, portrays a very sophisticated look.

3) Denim can look sloppy and thrown together.  Avoid this by making your outfit look like it was planned out thoughtfully.  A crisp t shirt or button down tucked into jeans or a skirt, with the right accessories and make up can step up the style of your denim tremendously.

4) Remember the dark washes provide more of a slimming affect, so wear the lighter shades strategically.  Dark denim jeans paired with a lighter denim top or jacket is the most flattering way to strut your stuff!

  10. Thank you for co-hosting with us today! I LOVE to wear denim on denim and I usually do different wash colors. I never thought of texture or dressing it up more. I really should try it with a pair of heels instead of boots or slip ons! Your denim vest was def. a great find! Also, I think those images may be fuzzy, because you may have them sized larger than the 650 px width that I created them at!

  22. Denim make a great character to every one. But the Trend is change then before, i am totally agreed with that the dark washes provide more of a slimming affect, so we should change that to wear the lighter shades strategically.
