Whistler B.C: Why You Should Visit in the Fall

4:00 PM

Visit a winter ski resort in the fall, say what? Ah yes, Whistler  is known as a renowned winter destination and is home to one of the top ski resorts in the world.  Most travelers visit here when mounds of puffy white stuff are blanketing the village. I made my visit in October. All the fall colors were showing off so beautifully!

I miss the "The true north strong and free" and seeing the beautiful maple leaf flag. I was born in Canada and raised just a few hours from this scenic wonderland.  It's crazy I grew up in the area and never saw Whistler until I was an adult.

Of course it would be totally awesome to visit when the snow arrives, but I think visiting on a fall day is absolutely perfect!

Why You Should Visit Whistler in the Fall

Stunning Autumn Colors

The bold hues of orange, red and gold are beautiful to say the least.  Here you will see the best display of fall colors in the Pacific Northwest.  The view of the Olympic Rings are the icing on the cake!

Vancouver and Whistler hosted the 2010 Winter Games.  I did make it home for this,  but spent all my time at the events downtown Vancouver . It was cool to see the rings displayed with the stunning scenery of the Canadian Northwest for a backdrop!

Bike Racing

I had no idea about bike trail, running along side of the main ski jump.  I love cycling, but have never done it as a sport. Wow...the bikes come careening down that hill at record speed. I was on the edge of my seat, and was sure someone was going to land on their head!

It's cool you can ride up on the ski lift and throw your bike on too. Bike racing and cycling events are extremely popular at Whistler and in Vancouver . In the summer, the BC Bike Race (BCBR) takes place. It's a seven day mountain bike race operated around Vancouver area.  It is said to take riders on an adventure of a lifetime.  Sign me up! I love cycling and need to make more time for it.

Less Crowds in the Village

Whistler Village has every type of shop and eatery you can imagine. We didn't even scratch the surface.  I don't always do well with crowded areas, especially when it comes to shopping!  It was great to browse the shops and not have to worry about long lines.

The winter snow ferries and their bear sidekick came out from winter hibernation!

While in the village, check out this amazing bakery shop cafe.  The pastries here are the best I've tasted in a long time. OH MY- to die for!!

I wanted to take it all home! Instead I chose a piece from one of the loaves. The dark brown on the left is chocolate topped with salted caramel icing. I think I died and went to heaven after devouring this yummy bread.  If you go to Whistler make sure you stop at Pure Bread. !

The Sea to Sky Highway

It is a beautiful breathtaking view driving to Whistler. The Sea to Sky Highway ( known as Highway 99) runs from West Vancouver to Whistler, passing Squamish on the way up. It also extends past Whistler to the towns of Pemmberton and Mount Currie before ending at Lillooet.

Be sure to make time for stopping at the viewpoints along the highway.  You can capture pretty amazing scenes on your camera.

On the ride I was blessed to travel with my friend Helen from 6th grade.  We had a great time reminiscing and taking pictures .

If you've never been to Whistler or British Columbia, do add it to your bucket list.  Here you will set eyes on some of the best scenery ever!  I'm partial, but I'm sure many would agree with me! Here's another fabulous spot in the Vancouver area you might want to check out!

Have you been to Whistler yet?

  13. I went to Whistler at the beginning of summer, I think (it was awhile ago) and it was gorgeous. I hate skiing, so going in winter holds no appeal for me. But while we were there the bears were active, the town was quiet and the hiking was stunning. I highly recommend going outside the usual tourist season.
