Why You Should Visit Whistler B.C. in the Fall

Visit a winter ski resort in the fall, say what? Ah yes, Whistler is known as a renowned winter destination and is home to one of the best ski resorts in the world.  Most travelers visit here when mounds of puffy white stuff are blanketing the village. I made my visit in October. All the fall colors were showing off so beautifully!

I miss the "The true north strong and free" and seeing the beautiful Canadian flag I was born in Canada and raised in a suburb of Vancouver.  It's crazy I grew up in the area, and never saw Whistler til I was grown.

Of course it would be awesome to visit when the snow arrives, but visiting on a fall day is absolutely perfect. You can always add a day in Vancouver to your itinerary after seeing Whistler.

Stunning Autumn Colors

The bold hues of orange, red and gold are beautiful to say the least.  Here you will see the an amazing display of fall colors in the Pacific Northwest.  The view of the Olympic Rings are the icing on the cake!

Vancouver and Whistler hosted the 2010 Winter Games. I did make it home for this, but spent all my time at events downtown Vancouver . It was cool to see the rings displayed with fall on showcase in the background.

Bike Racing

I didn't know Whistler hosted bike races in the fall; on the side of the main ski jump.  I love cycling, but have never done it as a sport. Wow, the bikes came careening down the hill at record speed. I was very anxious watching the bike race, and was sure someone was going to land on their head!

If you love cycling adventures in the mountains, check out this guided E- Bike tour you can reserve during your visit to Whislter-Blackcomb.

Visitors can ride the ski lift and throw a bike on too. Bike racing and cycling events are extremely popular at Whistler and in Vancouver . In the summer, the BC Bike Race (BCBR) takes place. It's a seven day mountain bike race operated around Vancouver area.  It is said to take riders on an adventure of a lifetime. Sign me up!

Less Crowds in the Village

Whistler Village has a great selection of boutiques and places to eat.  It was great to browse the shops and not have to wait in long lines.  Fall in Whistler is a great time to wine and dine with less crowds.

While in the village, check out this amazing bake shop.  The pastries here are the best I've tasted in a long time. OH MY- to die for!

I wanted to take it all home! Instead I chose a piece from one of the loaves. The dark brown on the left is chocolate topped with salted caramel icing. I think I died and went to heaven after eating this yummy bread.  If you go to Whistler make sure you stop at Pure Bread. !

The Sea to Sky Highway

It is a beautiful breathtaking view driving to Whistler. The Sea to Sky Highway (known as Highway 99) runs from West Vancouver to Whistler, passing Squamish on the way up. It also extends past Whistler to the towns of Pemberton and Mount Currie before ending at Lillooet.

British Columbia really has breathtaking scenery, and this area sure won't disappoint. If you have time after visiting Whistler, see the grandeur of the Sea to Sky pass via a helicopter tour!

Be sure to make time for stopping at the viewpoints along the highway.  You can capture pretty amazing scenes on your camera.

If you've never been to Whistler, do add it to your bucket list.  Here you will set eyes on some of the best scenery ever!  I'm partial, but I'm sure many would agree with me. Here's another fabulous spot in the Vancouver area you might want to check out.

  13. I went to Whistler at the beginning of summer, I think (it was awhile ago) and it was gorgeous. I hate skiing, so going in winter holds no appeal for me. But while we were there the bears were active, the town was quiet and the hiking was stunning. I highly recommend going outside the usual tourist season.
