What to Wear in Costa Mesa, CA

Today I am staring a series called " What to Wear In...." Many times when we travel we wonder what to wear in certain destinations. Style guides for cities, towns , beaches are all over online. Sometimes sifting through all the information can get overwhelming.

I plan to do these posts on Wednesdays or Thursdays, a few times a month. At some point, perhaps we can do one every week . I hope you find these style guides helpful. The first "What to Wear in...." will feature the City of the Arts: Costa Mesa, CA. Last month I and my daughter visited for a girls trip, it's a "must see' destination!

WHAT TO WEAR IN COSTA MESA

Sarong

A sarong is perfect to pack for a trip to Orange County. There are around 278 days of sun to take advantage of, so plan well!  This piece is so versatile and can be style so many ways. Throw it over your suit for a cover up: add a pop of color with a pair of yellow slides. Thanks to Travel Costa Mesa for gifting us with these cute sarongs!

I like how a sarong can work as a skirt as well. You could wear a pair of bike shorts underneath,  in case the wrapped skirt comes undone.

Neon Bathing Suit

I'm all about bright colors in Cali!  The seventies neon trend is back again, yay! It was popular three years ago and left us for a bit. I love the two piece neon suit, Ashlin bought for the trip. If you can't find one, South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa has you covered!

 White Jean Overalls

A dress overall in midi length will get you around town in comfort. Costa Mesa can have with a cool marine layer in the morning, and can last part of the day. This outfit is perfect for a cooler morning and also later when the sun comes out! Pack a hoodie or sweatshirt and you are good to go.

 Sundresses and Rompers

The beach, happy hours and day trips call for colorful sundresses and rompers.  Pantone color of the year " living coral" is all the rage this summer. Along with bright pinks and hues of blue.

A sundress midi or mini can take your from day to evening. Change up your look by adding different shoes and accessories for evening time.  Lily Pulitzer is one of my favorite brands for summer style.  They offer the most amazing resort wear you can't find anywhere else.

I can't wear rompers, too frustrating to undo every time you use the restroom, ha! Most ladies do love them for the beach and beyond.

Statement Bags and Clutches

Bucket bags envelope purses, suitcase totes and Cult Gaia bamboo bags are all great choices to accent your summer looks.  I loved drooling over all these bags, at the Louis Vuitton store at South Coast Plaza. You can stick to the classic colors for summer, or go out on a limb and purchase something with bling or bright colors.

Bodycon Dresses and Skirts

The fabric for bodycon pieces is always super comfortable and stretchy. Your clothes will make room and expand for all the over indulging on vacation, he he!  Seriously though, bodycon pieces are my favorite to take on vacation.

Several ladies these days are into capsule wardrobes, especially when traveling. Buy yourself a striped navy bodycon skirt and a few colorful tops and you can create several looks. I especially loved these outfits for visiting Costa Mesa.

Some of the evenings were also on the cool side, as Newport Beach is just a few miles away.  For day wear, I paired my skirt with a coral sleeveless top.  In the early evening, I changed to a yellow top and added a distressed jean jacket to stay warm.

I and Ashlin found fun bodycon dresses for day wear at Forever 21. The store at South Coast Plaza is huge, so bring a fat wallet and shop til you drop!
