Whistler B.C: Why You Should Visit in the Fall

whistler, travel, fall, travelblogger,

Visit a winter ski resort in the fall, say what? Ah yes, Whistler  is known as a renowned winter destination and is home to one of the top ski resorts in the world.  Most travelers like to make a visit here when mounds of puffy white stuff are blanketing the village. I recently made a visit in October and it was simply amazing!

I miss the "The true north strong and free" and seeing the beautiful maple leaf flag. I was born in Canada and raised just a few hours from this scenic wonderland.  It's crazy that I grew up so close, and just visited for the first time on this trip. Wow, I have been missing out on life..!

Of course it would be totally awesome to visit when the snow arrives, but I think visiting on a fall day was absolutely perfect!

Why You Should Visit Whistler in the Fall:

1) Stunning Autumn Colors:

The bold hues of orange, red, and gold were jaw dropping beauty to say the least . Never have I seen the colors of fall on display, like I did here. Ah and seeing the Olympic Rings was the icing on the cake!

If you follow the Olympic Games at all, then you know that Vancouver and Whistler hosted the 2010 Winter Games.  I did make it home at that time, but spent all my time downtown Vancouver at the events there. It was so cool to see the rings displayed with the stunning scenery of the Canadian Northwest for a backdrop!

2) Bike Racing:

I had no idea about the long winding bike trail, that runs along side of the main ski jump.  I love cycling, but have never done it as a sport. Wow...the bikes came careening down that hill at record speed. I was on the edge of my seat, and was sure someone was going to land on their head!

It's kind of cool that you can ride up on the ski lift and throw your bike on too. Bike racing and cycling events are extremely popular at Whistler and in Vancouver . In the summer, the BC Bike Race (BCBR) takes place.

It's a seven day mountain bike race operated around Vancouver area.  It is said to take riders on an adventure of a lifetime.  Sign me up! I love cycling and need to make more time for it.

3) Less Crowds in the Village:

Of course Whistler Village has every type of shop and eatery you can imagine. We didn't even scratch the surface.  I don't always do well with crowded areas, especially when it comes to shopping!  It was so lovely to browse in the shops and not have to worry about long lines etc.

Alrighty I just discovered the most amazing coffee shop and bakery ever!  The pastries here were probably the best I've tasted in a long time. OH MY- to die for!!

Since I could not take home all of it, I chose a piece from one of these loaves. The dark brown one on the left is chocolate topped with salted carmel icing. I think I died and went to heaven after eatng it!  If you ever get to Whistler make sure you stop in at Pure Bread. !

The scenery on the drive was breathtaking as well.  My friend and partner in crime from 6th grade, Helen, chauffeured me on the trip. We had a great time reminiscing  and it was great capturing some snaps of the mountains.

If  you've never seen British Columbia, you are missing out on some of the most amazing lanscape in the world. Okay yeah, I'm partial, but I'm sure many would agree with me! Here's another fabulous spot in the Vancouver area you might want to check out!

Well that's it for my tour through Whistler, now I want to see it when it's snow covered. Who knows, maybe I will attempt skiing Blackcomb ;) I'd also like to go back to do some hiking!

Have you been to Whistler yet? If so, which season if your favorite for visiting?

  13. I went to Whistler at the beginning of summer, I think (it was awhile ago) and it was gorgeous. I hate skiing, so going in winter holds no appeal for me. But while we were there the bears were active, the town was quiet and the hiking was stunning. I highly recommend going outside the usual tourist season.
